MS Dhoni dishes out his worst during his 200th IPL game | Cricket News

CHENNAI: MS Dhoni has given a lot to Chennai Super Kings over the last 13 years. But on the day he played his historic 200th IPL game, the once maverick dished out probably his worst performance.
But for a spell of five overs while defending 125 when CSK took three quick Royals wickets, not for once did Dhoni look in any sort of control in a game where CSK had to win.
It all started when he came out to bat within the first 10 overs with CSK in a spot. CSK fans can’t count the number of times their captain had won games from such positions, but this is just a pale shadow of that old self. He gave two Indian leggies without international experience Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia the respect that Shane Warne would probably have got in his prime. Dhoni probably knew in his mind what he had to do, but it was evident that his game where he could churn out sixes at ease has left him.

Add to that his rigidity in team selection where he refused to play leg-spinner Imran Tahir in a single game or kept on playing a completely out of form Kedar Jadhav game after game. Even while fielding, he tried the spinners Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja so late that they had no say. Dhoni spoke about “process” at the end of the match, but during the course of this IPL there has been indications that he is getting things wrong on that count as well.
The skipper indicated that there will be changes in the next games with an eye on 2021, but this festival season seems to be a real dark one for CSK fans. And make no mistake, their dear Thala had a hand in this misery.
